I almost never buy adult dogs and when I do I'm usually disappointed in them. The habits they've been allowed to form during their most impressionable months of age can be extremely hard or even impossible to change. Teal was quite an impulsive buy but I have never regretted it. She has some habits that we are still working on cleaning up but overall this dog is such a fantastic little dog! Though she is a hard worker when it's time to work, she is just as hard of a player and relaxer when work is over. Since just a few days after I got her I have been able to trust her around the barnyard (goats, chickens, ducks, etc.) during chore time because she instantly recognized the difference between work and down time. She takes her favorite squeaky toys and entertains herself for hours. Teal is a sensitive dog and can take a bit(like 5 seconds) to warm up to people, but she has no reactivity or aggression associated with her slight timidity. She has such a carefree, goofy personality if I ever need a quick "pick me up" I just go hang out with Teal-she's always got something up her sleeve to make me laugh!
Teal is just getting started on stock. So far she is a super stylish more sheep type dog with lots of natural ability. She has such a cool heel bite, and bites head as well. Her bite is very quick and clean and has no adrenaline behind it. She is very sensitive and easy to work, and doesn't make train wrecks of things like most of my young dogs.
I have never been a person who breeds with color in mind but just before I bought Teal I was starting to consider getting some color into my lines, particularly dilutes. I didn't know anything about color genetics behind Teal when I impulsively bought her, so upon getting her DNA results back I was astonished to find out that she carries dilute! I guess it's meant to be!
